Paul Whitmore is the lead reviewer at The UK Trades Awards, with more than twenty years spent in and around the UK's industrial buildings, on factory floors, warehouse roofs and everything between.

Paul came up through the trades side rather than the publishing side. Two decades of surveying, snagging and specifying across flooring, roofing, cladding and industrial coatings taught him the difference between a contractor's brochure and a contractor's work, and that difference is what this site exists to report.

How Paul reviews

Every ranking Paul leads follows the same discipline: verify the accreditations against the issuing bodies, read the client rosters for repeat blue-chip work rather than one-off logos, weigh published warranties as bets the firm places on itself, study reviews across platforms for patterns rather than one-off complaints, and apply first-hand trade knowledge of what good work actually looks like at year ten, not just at handover.

He writes the site's practical guides in his own voice, from epoxy cure times to warehouse re-roof programmes, and chairs the review board behind the annual awards, the process described in full in how our judging works.

Paul's guides

Start with his most-read pieces: how long epoxy flooring takes to cure, epoxy vs polyurethane, how long a warehouse re-roof takes and what industrial roof replacement really costs.
