Independent panels scoring real work against clear, published criteria.
Every entry to The UK Trades Awards is scored by an independent panel against clear, published criteria. We judge the quality of the work, the standards behind it and the outcome for the client, not how polished the entry looks on paper.
Who judges
Our panels are made up of experienced people from within the trades and the wider construction industry. That matters, because you cannot fairly judge a roof, a floor or a rewire unless you understand what good actually looks like on the tools. Marketing gloss does not fool people who have done the work themselves.
What we score
Quality of workmanship
The heart of every category. Is the work done to a genuinely high standard, and does it hold up to expert scrutiny rather than a quick glance?
Standards and safety
How seriously does the entrant take training, safety and doing things by the book? Great trades are built on solid foundations, not shortcuts.
Client outcome
Did the work solve the problem, land on time and leave the client genuinely happy? A brilliant job that let the customer down is not a brilliant job.
Evidence
We look for real proof, from photographs and references to results and testimonials. Claims are easy. Evidence is what wins.
How the process works
Entries are first checked to make sure they sit in the right category and meet the basics. They are then scored independently by panel members against the criteria, so no single voice decides an outcome. The strongest entries are shortlisted, and winners are chosen from that shortlist. Scoring the work blind to the size of the firm is how a small outfit can and does beat a national name.
Why it stays fair
Because the criteria are published and the judging is independent, a win here is earned rather than bought. That is the whole point. If the award did not mean something, celebrating it would be hollow, and hollow is the one thing the trades do not need more of.
